After A Huge Outcry, WhatsApp’s Text Status Feature To Make A Comeback In ‘About’ Description
WhatsApp received a lot of criticism from its users for enabling a Snapchat-like WhatsApp Status that gets vanished in 24 hours, a few days earlier. As a result, the billion-strong messaging service company has decided to revive its old text-based status message feature, which is being tested in the latest Android beta version 2.17.95.
Apparently, the WhatsApp beta update version 2.17.95 restores the old status feature as ‘About and phone number’ which appears on your profile. When you upgrade the app, it automatically adds your previous Status which you kept before updating your app. To view or change the text status, just tap on the three dots in the top-right corner and go to Settings. Then, just tap on your name which takes you to profile page from where you can see or change your status. You will be able to see the old default options of ‘Available’, ‘Busy’, ‘At school’, ‘At the movies’, etc., and more importantly the status does not disappear after 24 hours.
The feature is still being tested and currently, it is available only for Android beta testers. Also, there is no other information as to when will the official roll out of this feature begin. However, since this feature is available in Android beta version, it is expected to be rolled out to the other interfaces in the near future as well.
Other than bringing back the old feature, the company has also introduced separate buttons to make voice and video calls, which would make it easier to access and initiate calls via the app. The company has also relocated the attachment icon, which would now be in the text box itself, right next to the camera icon.
